Friday 27 June, 2014 – approx. 9pm

A man reported he was bashed by three 3 guys – late teens early 20, they were hiding behind the bbq.

A man reported a group of about 4 young guys were seen driving a white Mitsubishi Lancer slowly past cars in the car park, they were seen shining a torch into vehicles to check if anyone was in them.

They then drove to the far end of the car park and pulled up next to a Daihatsu Charade which also had a few guys in it.

The Lancer drove off half an hour later.

Reports that men are being confronted by Council workers in the park… they CANNOT make any inappropriate/homophobic comments and/or threaten you…

Comment by Resident:

I’m a Warners Bay resident & I’m horrified of what is going on in the Bay! So many young kids wandering the streets at night breaking into cars, stealing cars, bashings & spray painting everything & anything & they know that by the time someone rings the police & the police arrive, they can be half way to Sydney in a stolen car!

They aren’t scared, if caught all they will get is a rap over the knuckles & they will be back on the streets stealing again!

2 weeks before Xmas I watched 3 youths, youngest 9 as we know of him trying to break into cars in our area, I could have rang the police but what good would that have done, the police would have arrived an hour or so later, & if I told the police where one of the kids lived all the police can do is speak to him & for my efforts ringing the cops, I would end up with every window in my house broken from this kids rock throwing! So why bother!

We really need tougher laws on these kids & we really need a Police Station in Warners Bay!

January 26, 2013 – two men were confronted by 5 homophobic teenagers – 2 were carrying metal poles, who raced up to them and started screaming ‘faggots’… it’s understood a local resident came to their assistance

they also recently sprayed graffiti and vandalised the toilet blocks, skate park and surrounding area.

stay away from the ‘Blue Hatch’ that’s been seen hanging around the car park and flashing the vehicle lights at men… they’ve also approached men and suggested they drive elsewhere (reported mid-Feb).

Police were aware of the article several days before it was published – we’ve raised concerns of further vigilante behaviour and homophobic violence in the Hunter area… view published article

April 22 — local youths continue to harass men in the area and have escalated their taunts — there is a real threat that someone may get hurt, and we’re concerned for your safety.

local police and Supt. Donna Adney have been notified and provided descriptions on several occasions, yet we’re concerned they have not responded appropriately and professionally toward these incidents — which has resulted in the youths escalating their taunts and threats (aka vigilante empowerment).

one vehicle is silver — AA 13 LI — the other two are a dark colour — VPK 579 and ASG 84C

it’s important that you DO NOT respond to their taunts and keep a safe distance — immediately call Police on 000 when the youths are in the area — you can also request that you remain anonymous. ask for the officers name if you speak with them and REPORT it so we can assist you to follow it up.

Mon April 18 — 8.50pm — the youths were observed walking out of the park and approached a man sitting in his car in the car park. There were four youths – three were dressed in dark clothes and hoods, one with no shirt and was wearing a red cap. The man identified the youth in the red cap as the same youth who was driving the silver car the previous night, and who had been harassing men in the park.

The youths chatted with the man for a short time, then the youth in the red cap started slamming the driver side door open and shut hard several times, and yelled ‘my father works for Newcastle police’ and ‘we’re going to get you… we’re going to kill you’. The youths noted his vehicle registration and then ran off towards Elebana.

The man then rang the police 000 at 9.02pm, and spoke with officers in a white police van (registration no: BG 52 NW).

Sun April 17 — 8.15pm — the youths were observed driving around the car park in a silver car with red P plates (registration no: AA 13 LI), then stopped to shine its lights on high beam at a man who was walking into the park. A youth in a red cap was driving the car.

we’ve also received reports that indicate local police have increased patrols of the area, and that the unmarked red commodore has been seen driving through the carpark prior to patrols.

at this point, we understand they’re patrolling the area to ensure your safety.

in the meantime, please continue to closely monitor the area. we recommend that you…

the youths walked over to a van parked in the car park and were observed – even by the owner of the van – bashing on the vehicle as they yelled homophobic comments toward men in the park… they then walked further into the park yelling homophobic comments, and again threw fireworks into the toilets and toward men in the area.

they approached a man taking note of their vehicle registration details, who told them he will be notifying police — two of the boys said ‘ring newcastle police and ask for (name), he is my father and has a high rank’, another boy said ‘I’m only 15 so what can they do, we are helping residents of Valentine get rid of you poofters’, and another said ‘get his phone and smash it’.
